Chandragiri Fort is under the list of must-see places in Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh. It stands tall in Chandragiri, Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh. It has a rich history. It was built in the 11th century by the Yadava rulers. It is marked as one of the interesting places in history that still stands strong.

It is located in one of the most important places in India, Tirupati. Tirupati is a very well-known rich temple and is visited by many people from all over the country. Once people go to Tirupati they can visit the Chandragiri fort with family and friends for some nice time.

What is the History of Chandragiri fort?

Chandragiri was built by the Yadava rulers originally in the 11th century. They ruled over for 3 centuries, then it was conquered by the Vijayanagara rulers. It was then that Chandragiri fort became very famous and well-known by the people.

In 1376 the Vijayanagara rulers conquered this fort, and it was their 4th capital for their empire. It is also said that Srikrishna Devaraya was kept in the palace until his coronation and also that he met his future wife and the queen Chinna Devi in this fort.

When Penukonda was the capital it was attacked by the Golconda sultans and thereafter Chandragiri fort was made the capital then.

What do tourists get to see in the fort?

Chandragiri Fort is a very large area, it is a very huge fort and hence inside the fort tourists get to see many historical architectures on the buildings and temples inside.

It has about eight temples inside, the raja mahal and rani mahal which are maintained very well from the past 300 years. The raja mahal is also converted into a museum by the government. Apart from these important places inside there are other rooms and disrupted architecture to look around.

It is a very fun place of history seekers, adventurous people and family too.

What is the best time to visit the Chandragiri fort?

There is no season needed to visit a beautiful fort, forts can be visited any time of the year, it is not risky or the trip to a fort cannot be spoilt due to weather, one can always visit forts anytime they wish to.

Visiting during a breezy day would be suggested though, as breeze and forts go hand in hand and the beauty can be explored.

Though there is no best time for visiting this beautiful fort, the fort arranges many shows from November to June for the visitors, for some extra fun people can go visit from November to June. They arrange laser shows and charge Rs 30 for adults and Rs 20 for kids below 15 years of age. They have two batches a summer show and a winter show depending upon who goes when to visit the palace.    

Chandragiri fort is surrounded by many other places to visit just nearby and hence one can visit the fort when they go to Tirupati because it is a very well know place for people to go all the time of the year.

What are the timings & entry fee?

going to a place to visit must be worthwhile, to be the visit worthwhile everyone must know the timings to visit that certain place, not to worry we have the timings of when someone can visit the fort.

Family and tourists can visit the place from 9:00 are to 5:00 pm from Monday to Sunday except on Fridays. Fridays are a holiday.

There is a museum to visit other than just to see around the fort and the museum hours are 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. The entry fees for every adult Indian citizen would be Rs 20 and for kids it is free. For foreigners, it is Rs 205.
