Qutub Minar History

Qutub Minar History is amazing Qutub Minar was built by the Delhi Sultanate of Delhi during the most famous dynasty of that period. Delhi sultanate founder and the beginner Qutubuddin Aibak.

Qutub Minar was a mark of victory, it symbolized the beginning of the Delhi Sultanate. After Qutubuddin Aibak won over Delhi he built this.

In the year 1199 AD Qutubuddin Aibak built until the three floors of Qutub Minar later it was continued by his son in law Iltutmish he completed the whole monument. Iltutmish went to make three more floors above.

In the 1360’s after a lighting struck the top of Qutub Minar the top portion was completely ruined it was then later fixed by Ferzoh Shah Tuglaq, who not only fixed the portion which was in ruins but also added more floors to the massive monument.

Unlike many monument one of the many interesting facts that stand are the current Qutub Minar which stands took about 75 years to be completed.

Places to see inside the Qutub Minar

While it is one of the amazing places to visit in Delhi India, there is lot more you can see inside it. Qutub Minar has a lot of things other than just the monument itself, we will discuss them all.

Starting with the Sarai which is a spot for the travelers to rest before entering the whole place, it was supposedly built in the 1700s by the Mughals for the travelers.

Quwwat-Ul-Islam

A large open space near the Minar is quite surprisingly a mosque which is called the Quwwat-Ul-Islam mosque. This was one of the first mosques built in India as it was built in the year 1190’s by Qutubuddin Aibak. Indeed it is one of the best places to visit in Delhi India.

The architecture of the mosque is a mixture of Hindu gods, Jain and Islam. There a lot of presentations of Lord Shiva in the small spaces of the mosque.

Some of these pillars where pre built, these pillars were from temples of Hind gods and Jain gods. These pillars were brought after destroying some of these temples.

Alai Minar

There is also an Alai Minar in the Qutub Minar complex which is built by Alauddin Khilji, he had even made some here and there construction of the Qutub Minar but very less, he then moved on to make his on Alai Minar which looks like a pile of ruins. It is apparently unfinished it was supposed to build more but left unfinished. 

Tomb of Iltutmish

The tomb of Iltutmish, the 2nd ruler of the Delhi dynasty Iltutmish was buried there in the tomb right behind the Quwwat-Ul-Islam mosque. The tomb was full of Islamic architecture. This amazing architecture makes it one of the best places to visit in Delhi India.

Alauddin Khilji’s Madrasa

This set of rooms / buildings with open spaces were rooms for students, like an educational place for his students and a library sort of a space. These rooms were clearly only for educational purpose.

How to travel to Qutub Minar?

Since this is happening places to visit in Delhi India, everyone who visits Delhi would love to visit this amazing monument. Delhi is a busy place, loads of traffic and rush. Metro too is available though it could be busy but the Metro is the easiest way out, use the metro until the Qutub Minar station, from there the Qutub Minar is 1.5kms away.

There are buses available too, from various parts of the city on their official website people can find many tourist buses available and you can book them too.

Other than these public transports you can use a private car or cabs which will be easily available too from everywhere easily.

Qutub Minar Food Places

Delhi the name itself reaps out good food, the street food, and restaurant food. Best known for the North Indian cuisine. Other than North Indian cuisine there are plenty of south Indian dishes available too along with Chinese dishes.

Street food near the Qutub Minar in the evening is the best, you can try the Chinese platter street side, available in both veg and non veg and very fulfilling too. With platters of kebabs, sheikh kebabs, soya chaap, paneer tikkas, chicken tikkas, momos of all kinds namely tandoori momos, gravy momos, shezwaan momos and fried momos.

In veg pav bhaji, aloo tikki, puri chole, malai paneer and much more delicacies. There are chaats available too.

With spicy dishes there are many places with deserts and ice creams too. The kulfi being the main item of delicacy and falooda with ice cream, rabdi, jalebi and more.
